CLARK Gregg is to reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson in Joss Whedon’s ABC pilot S.H.I.E.L.D. The casting news was confirmed by Marvel on Saturday at New York Comic-Con. Gregg has played the character in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and voiced the role in Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man before finally meeting his maker as part of The Avengers this summer. The casting brings Agent Coulson back to life – and is very welcome news. S.H.I.E.L.D. is based on the long-running comic created by Jack Kirby and revolves around the secret military law enforcement agency of the same name. Whedon is co-penning the pilot alongside his brother Jed Whedon and Jed’s wife Maurissa Tancharoen. He has also agreed to direct The Avengers 2.
