24 spin-off Legacy confirmed by Fox

24, Day 7

Story by Jack Foley

A SPIN-off series to 24 has been confirmed by Fox.

Although still in the early stages of planning, the reboot – dubbed 24: Legacy – will not feature any returning cast members. Original star Kiefer Sutherland has already suggested he has no interest in playing the character of CTU agent Jack Bauer again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, insiders are quoted as saying that the spin-off would involve a lead character of potentially African-American origin in his 20s.

And Gary Newman, of Fox, told reporters after Fox’s Television Critics’ Association press session, that the decision to cast as diverse as possible formed part of the network’s ambition to look to make the role as “different from Jack Bauer as possible”.

The said lead will, however, be a military hero recently returned to the US, with the storyline involving the trouble that follows him back.

He will subsequently team up with the original series’ CTU agency to help save his life and, in the process, stop a large-scale terror attack on American soil.

While the changes are being rung on the surface, the behind-the-scenes team will bring back a lot of familiar faces.

Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Even Katz are all back on board as executive producers, while Emmy-winning director Stephen Hopkins is also on board to helm the pilot.

As yet, there is no air date.
