AARON Sorkin’s new TV drama The Newsroom has been renewed for a second season by HBO.
The drama, which stars Jeff Daniels and follows the inner workings of a cable news network, recently enjoyed the third-best drama series debut for the cable network as well as widespread critical acclaim.
It marked a triumphant small screen return for Sorkin, the Emmy-creator of The West Wing, who went on to find Oscar-winning success as the screenplay writer for The Social Network.
Only Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones have enjoyed better debuts.
The drama also boasts an impressive ensemble line-up, including Sam Waterston, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill and Jane Fonda. It will premiere in the UK on Sky Atlantic later this month.
Describing what to expect from the series, Sorkin himself told The Hollywood Reporter: “This is meant to be an idealistic, romantic, swashbuckling, sometimes comedic but very optimistic, upward-looking look at a group of people who are often looked at cynically.”
