Aidan Gillen and Sophie Okonedo for BBC thriller Mayday

GAME Of Thrones star Aidan Gillen and Sophie Okonedo are to star alongside each other in a new BBC thriller called Mayday.
The five-parter will focus on the disappearance of a young girl from an idyllic community, prompting friends and neighbours to begin to suspect each other of wrong-doing.
Gillen will portray a single father named Everitt, while Okonedo has been cast as a mother-turned-spy.
Peter Firth has also joined the cast as a community leader, as has Lesley Manville as his wife.
The thriller has been written by the creators of ITV’s Whitechapel and is directed by Black Mirror‘s Brain Wels.
Commenting on what to expect, Ben Stephenson, controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, said: “[Writers] Ben Court and Caroline Ip have crafted a gripping thriller that takes us behind the scenes of a murder and examines the impact a devastating crime has on an ordinary neighbourhood.”
He was backed by Jane Featherstone, chief executive of Mayday producers Kudos Film and Television, who added: “Mayday< takes an original look at a familiar story. There are no police incident rooms, autopsies or crime scene investigations, instead this is about a town facing the reality that the killer is among them, one of them.”
