American Horror Story reveals third season subtitle
THE third season of American Horror Story will be subtitled Coven.
Speaking at the 30th annual PaleyFest, series co-creator Ryan Murphy also teased some story details.
He said: “It’s a really cool story that we’ve been talking for a couple years, and this seemed to be the year to do it.”
The third season will shoot in multiple locations, including New Orleans, which marks the first time the series has exited its sound stage filming location.
Murphy was joined on the panel by series newcomer Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange. And while no one divulged specific plot points, there was a lot of excitement from cast members.
Bates, who recently revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy while battling cancer, said of the show: “I’ve loved it from the very beginning. I called up Jessica and told her to talk to Ryan and tell him I’d do anything on the show.”
Murphy, for his part, promised there would be plenty of interaction between the two acting icons.
“I wanted to see a lot of scenes with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates going at it, and that’s what you’re going to see,” he promised.
According to Murphy, Bates will play Lange’s former best friend turned enemy. But that means nothing on its own given how the series re-boots itself every season.
In addition to Lange, other cast members set to return for season three include Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy and Lily Rabe.
Fans of the series have previously been told to expect a season that’s more historical, which may include some kind of romance, and a lighter tone than the hard-hitting Asylum.
