ANNE Hathaway, Dev Patel and Tina Fey are among the names signed up to appear in Amazon’s star-studded ensemble series Modern Love.

Based on the New York Times column and podcast, the series will explore “love in its multitude of forms – including sexual, romantic, familial, platonic and self love”. It is being written and directed by John Carney.

The eight-episode, half-hour anthology will also feature the likes of Andy Garcia, John Slattery, Brandon Victor Dixon, Catherine Keener and Julia Garner, as well as Cristin Milioti, Olivia Cooke, Andrew Scott, Shea Whigham, Gary Carr, Sofia Boutella and John Gallagher Jr.

The show has also signed Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), Emmy Rossum (Shameless) and Tom Hall (Sensation) to direct episodes.

Modern Love was one of the early pick-ups for Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke.

Commenting on the casting announcements, showunner Carney (whose credits include Once and Sing Street), said: “It’s like I woke up in the actor candy store. We’ve managed to assemble a dream cast of my favourite actors.

““It’s a testament to the reach of the original column and of how, now more than ever, love is the only certainty.”

Modern Love is currently in production in New York.
