Ashton Kutcher's Two And A Half Men character revealed

Ashton Kutcher in No Strings Attached

Story by Jack Foley

ASHTON Kutcher will play an Internet billionaire named Walden Schmidt on Two And A Half Men, CBS has announced.

Speaking to reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour in the US, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler described Schmidt as “a unique character” who played to Kutcher’s strengths.

She refused to confirm whether Charlie Sheen’s character would be killed off, as several reports have suggested, or how Kutcher’s character will come into the lives of Alan Harper (Jon Cryer) and his son, Jake (Angus T. Jones), except to say that they’re not related.

Endorsing Kutcher’s appointment and commitment to the role, Tassler went on to say: “We have an extraordinary actor in Ashton Kutcher. You have someone who is committed to doing their job and is incredibly professional.”

She also described him as “an extraordinarily talented, funny and gifted actor”, noting that the cast and writers appeared to have quickly “embraced” him from the evidence of a table read.

Asked if she and the network had learned any lessons from the Charlie Sheen sacking saga, she sighed: “Oh where to begin?”

But while insisting that the decision not to bring the cast on the tour for interviews was because they are still in production and ‘very focused’, she did promise that the show “will be as irreverent as it’s ever been”.

And she didn’t foresee any change in policy in the way that the network hired actors.
