BBC Sherlock special to be set in Victorian London

Story by Jack Foley

THE latest installment of the BBC’s hit drama Sherlock is to be set in Victorian London, its co-creator Steven Moffat has confirmed.

The news ends months of speculation surrounding the location of the one-off special that has been burning ever since the BBC released an image of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in character as the detective and his assistant in Victorian clothing.

In an interview with US publication Entertainment Weekly, however, Moffat finally let the cat out of the bag.

“The special is its own thing,” he said. “We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian.”

Filming has now been completed on the episode, although the BBC has yet to confirm a broadcast date.
