Ben Affleck to produce and direct crime drama for TV

Ben Affleck directs Gone Baby Gone

Story by Jack Foley

BEN Affleck is to executive produce and direct a crime drama for Fox TV.

The Middle Man is based on a story developed by Medium and Moonlighting Emmy nominee Glenn Gordon Caron and is set in the ’60s.

It explores the unique relationship between FBI man Rudy MacAteer, an agent charged with taking down the Italian-American mafia, and his confidential informant, the Irish-American gangster Mickey Flood.

However, as MacAteer bends the rules to get the job done, his actions – together with those of Flood’s – inadvertently trigger the rise of the Irish-American Mob.

The pilot is due to begin production in early 2014 and continues a prolific period for Affleck as actor, director and producer.

Only last month, he was announced as the new Batman in Warner Bros Man of Steel sequel, while he’s also poised to direct Live By Night.

Other projects in the pipeline include Whitey, a biopic about Boston mobster Whitey Bulger starring Matt Damon, Affleck and Casey Affleck, as well as historical adventure feature Race To The South Pole.

Affleck also has Runner Runner about to hit cinemas alongside Justin Timberlake and Gemma Arterton.

He is still riding high off the Oscar-winning success of Argo, which he starred in and directed.
