Ben Wheatley teams up with HBO for Silk Road drama

Sightseers, Ben Wheatley

Story by Jack Foley

BEN Wheatley is coming to television with HBO.

The British filmmaker behind acclaimed movies Kill List and Sightseers, will write, executive produce and direct Silk Road, a new drama which is rumoured to be in the vein of The Prisoner.

As yet, plot details for the series are being kept under wraps although The Hollywood Reporter is speculating that the name, Silk Road, could allude to an online black market, where the majority of products qualify as contraband in most jurisdictions.

Silk Road would mark Wheatley’s first foray into television although he’s not giving up his big screen commitments any time soon.

The talented writer-director is currently in post-production on his next film, the civil war drama A Field in England, and is also developing a large-scale sci-fi action film called Freak Shift.

Sightseers is released on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday, March 25.
