Bill Nighy and Christopher Walken for Page Eight sequels
Story by Jack Foley
BILL Nighy is to star in two sequels to BBC Two film Page Eight – and he’s bringing a star-studded cast with him.
Following the fortunes of MI5 spy Johnny Worricker, the two new dramas will be called Turks & Caicos and Salting The Battlefield. Both will be overseen by writer/director David Hare.
The former, Turks & Caicos, co-stars Christopher Walken, Winona Ryder, Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes and will see Worricker dealing with an old girlfriend and the CIA.
Salting The Battlefield will also feature Saskia Reeves, Judy Davis and Ewen Bremner and finds Worricker in exile and on the run across Europe.
Hare commented: “We have assembled a most extraordinary cast for these two films. I think there may be two reasons – first and foremost, because so many actors want to appear alongside Bill Nighy, but secondly, because people responded so strongly to the feeling of Page Eight – all the fun of spy fiction, I hope, but, for once, bang up to date and based in the real intelligence dilemmas of the last 10 years.”
Janice Hadlow, Controller of BBC Two, added: “David Hare’s outstanding films and incredible cast are testament to BBC Two’s commitment to original British drama and I am delighted to welcome him back to the channel.”
The original Page Eight saw Nighy starring alongside Rachel Weisz and Michael Gambon.
