Bill Pullman to join Torchwood cast
Story by Jack Foley
BILL Pullman and Mekhi Phifer have joined the cast of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood: The New World, according to Deadline Hollywood.
The big name duo follow Eric Roberts into the show, which is clearly benefting from a little extra cash investment from US cable channel Starz as it enters its fourth season.
Pullman, who remains best known for movie roles in Independence Day and While You Were Sleeping, will reportedly play a murderer named Oswald Jones, who gets out of prison on a technicality and becomes a media sensation.
He will appear as a regular who, while apparently repentant for his crime, is also full of rage.
Former ER star Phifer will play former CIA agent Rex Matheson, a character described as ‘a high-flyer whose perspective on life changes when his life is put in danger’.
Arlene Tur has also signed on to play a surgeon named Vera Juarez.
All three newcomers will line up alongside series regulars John Barrowman, as Jack, and Eve Myles, as Gwen, who are the last surviving members of the original line-up.
Series four is due to start shooting in 2011.
