Catherine Tate linked to Steve Carell's vacant US Office post
Story by Jack Foley
CATHERINE Tate has emerged as the lead contender to take over from Steve Carell as the new manager of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the British comedienne is the top choice of the show’s producers, although her ability to take the job permanently could be a problem due to her current theatre commitment.
Tate will appear in the season finale episode alongside guest stars Jim Carrey, Ray Romano and Will Ferrell.
But she is currently set to reunite with her former Dr Who co-star David Tennant as Beatrice in this summer’s Much Ado About Nothing in England, which is set to become one of the West End’s hottest theatre tickets of the summer.
Tate is also in the running against longtime Office cast members Ed Helms, Craig Robinson and Rainn Wilson, who have each expressed an interest in taking over as well.
As things stand, the show’s producers are discussing the possibilities but future plotlines are likely to revolve around Helms, Robinson and Wilson’s characters vying for the position.
Other names to have emerged as contenders include James Spader and Will Arnett, both of whom will appear in the season finale… as well as one of the longest shots of all, Ricky Gervais. But this is the most unlikely!
