BRITISH actor Clive Owen is to play former US Presidentn Bill Clinton in Impeachment, the third season of FX’s American Crime Story.

The Children of Men and Gemini Man star will line up alongside Sarah Paulson, Beanie Feldstein and Annaleigh Ashford in the cast for Impeachment: American Crime Story, which will tell the story of Clinton’s impeachment through the eyes of three women central to the probe: Monica Lewinsky (Feldstein), Linda Tripp (Paulson) and Paula Jones (Ashford).

Lewinsky is also a producer on the forthcoming season, which is due to air in 2020.

Based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, the show couldn’t be more timely given the current impeachment proceedings involving current US President Donald Trump.

Commenting a little about what to expect, FX chief John Landgraf told The Hollywood Reporter that Hillary Clinton is ‘not one of the main characters’ in the story, although Owen’s casting suggests that the former US President will be.

The search is still on for an actress to portray Hillary.

Owen is no stranger to television roles, having previously headed the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s medical drama The Knick. He also earned his first Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini-series or a Movie for his role in Hemingway & Gellhorn.

Indeed, Impeachment marks the second TV project Owen has signed on to in recent weeks. He’s also set to star with Julianne Moore in Lisey’s Story, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel, for Apple TV+.
