Colin Farrell set to play Oliver North in Amazon mini-series

True Detective: Season 2

Story by Jack Foley

COLIN Farrell is set to play Oliver North in an Iran Contra affair limited series for Amazon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project would reunite Farrell with Yorgos Lanthimos, who directed him in The Lobster.

Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson are co-writing the script, with the formal pick-up by Amazon said to hinge on final scripts from the duo.

North was a National Security Council staff member during the 1980s Iran Contra political scandal that involved the illegal sale of weapons to Iran to help encourage the release of US hostages in Lebanon.

According to reports, North is said to have formulated part of the plan to divert proceeds from weapons sales to support Contra rebel groups in Nicaragua, which was prohibited.

If the scripts are approved, the limited series would mark the third collaboration between Farrell and Lanthimos. As well as The Lobster, for which Lanthimos earned an Oscar nomination for his original screenplay, the two recently completed The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Farrell is no stranger to TV either, having recently appeared in the second season of HBO’s True Detective.
