Danny Boyle set to bring 10-part World War II mini-series to US TV
Story by Jack Foley
DANNY Boyle is to reunite with Slumdog Millionaire team Simon Beaufoy and Christian Colson for a 10-part World War II mini-series.
Based on the story of the British-trained Norwegian resistance fighters who sabotaged Hitler’s nuclear development programme, Telemark is being put together for American television and has already been picked up by FX.
Commenting on their decision to bring the story to the small screen, Beaufoy said: “As we all know, some of the very best narrative fiction ever told is currently being created as episodic television. This incredible story is ideally suited to the slower burn and added complexity that the longer format allows and I cant’ wait to get my teeth into this.”
Boyle added: “This is one of the world’s greatest stories, and we want to tell it on an epic scale.”
And welcoming the trio into the FX fray, Eric Schrier – FX Networks and FX Prods. original programming prexy – commented: “We’re incredibly honored to be working with Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy and Christian Colson who are three of the best filmmakers in the world.
“Telemark is a compelling, powerful and important story, and we know Danny, Simon and Christian will do a masterful job producing it.”
News of the Telemark deal comes less than a week after Boyle became attached to direct a feature adaptation of the documentary Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers, which revolves around the world’s most successful diamond thieves as they take audiences into the dark world of the international jewel trade.
