Danny McBride describes Eastbound & Down comeback as 'epilogue'

Eastbound & Down

Story by Jack Foley

DANNY McBride has explained his decision to continue with Eastbound & Down for a fourth season despite always having said the show should bow out after three.

Describing the forthcoming season as “a bonus round”, the actor and executive producer also descrobed the episodes as “an epilogue”.

Speaking to to HitFix, he said: “In this day and age, whenever you have an opportunity to have creative freedom, to tell a story you want to tell, and to do it the way you want to do it, it seems like that’s definitely a situation you don’t want to take lightly.

“With this show, it’s always been something where, you know, we always just counted our blessings that we could make each season.”

McBride went on to say that the fourth season would be “sort of an epilogue” to the first three runs, adding: “For a while, we thought of this epilogue as something that was maybe like an hour-and-a-half special, and the more we talked about it, the more we thought it could be one more season.”

The fourth season of Eastbound & Down will therefore run for eight episodes and is expected to return to HBO in the new year (2013).

The show airs on FX in the UK.
