Dave Bautista joins Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead at Netflix

GUARDIANS of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has joined the cast of Zack Snyder’s zombie movie Army of the Dead at Netflix.

Snyder, who first broke through with his remake of George A. Romero’s 1978 movie Dawn of the Dead, came up with the story for the zombie film and co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten. However, it is not a sequel to Dawn of the Dead.

Rather, the film is set following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, when a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.

Army of the Dead marks Snyder’s first directing gig since he departed DC’s Justice League movie for personal reasons. His other most recent credits include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel.

Principal photography on Army of the Dead is set to begin later this year.

Bautista will reprise his role of Drax in Avengers: Endgame, which opens on April 26, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy III (so long as he survives the Thanos finger click!).

He also stars in the Fox comedy Stuber, which launches on July 12 in the US, and the comedy My Spy, which debuted its trailer this week. He’s also in production on Denis Villeneuve’s star-studded remake of Dune.
