David Jason returning to BBC for Royal Bodyguard sitcom
Story by Jack Foley
DAVID Jason is to return to the BBC for his first new comedy series in 20 years.
The veteran actor will star in the BBC1 sitcom The Royal Bodyguard, about an ex-guardsman who is mistakenly put in charge of royal security.
The show will mark Jason’s first series for the BBC since Only Fools and Horses, which completed its run in 1991 before being followed by a number of Christmas specials.
Since then he has largely been seen on ITV1, where his most famous work saw him turning serious as detective Jack Frost in A Touch of Frost.
Commenting on The Royal Bodyguard and his decision to return to comedy, Jason said: “It will be good to have a laugh again. I am really looking forward to working with the very talented producer Jimmy Mulville, and working on a great comedy project with the BBC.
The show is due to begin filming in July.
