BROADCHURCH star David Tennant has landed the role of the main villain in Marvel TV series Jessica Jones.

The announcement was made by Marvel.com on Monday and marks one of four shows centering on Marvel heroes that Netflix has picked up straight to series.

The streaming service has committed to a minimum of four 13-episode series, which will begin rolling out in 2015 with Jessica Jones.

Krysten Ritter has previously been cast as the title character, a detective who keeps getting pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York, following her own tragic ending as a short-lived superhero.

Tennant will play a character named Kilgrave, who is described as “an enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past whose reappearance will send shock waves through the former superhero’s world”.
