Desperate Housewives' eighth season will be its last

THE eighth season of long-running drama Desperate Housewives will reportedly be its last.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that high production costs and dwindling viewer figures had contributed to ABC’s decision to call it a day.
Rumours surrounding its cancellation have been circulating for some time, according to the report, especially as cast salaries have started to soar.
A formal announcement is expected on Sunday, when ABC is due to attend a session at the summer Television Critics’ Association press tour in Beverly Hills.
Desperate Housewives was formerly one of the highest rated shows on ABC and Channel 4, and turned stars Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria into household names.
But the recently concluded seventh season averaged fewer than 12 million viewers in the US, down from nearly 24 million who tuned in for Season 1.
