Downton Abbey sets return date for fourth season premiere
Story by Jack Foley
THE fourth season of Downton Abbey will premiere on Sunday, September 22, at 9pm on ITV.
The episode will follow The X Factor on the same channel and will be up against By Any Means on BBC One.
The fourth series will pick up in the aftermath of Matthew Crawley’s death and will focus heavily on the loss of the character and, in particular, its effect on his wife, Lady Mary’s (Michelle Dockery).
But it will include potential new suitors for Lady Mary, including the characters Lord Anthony Gillingham (Tom Cullen) and Charles Blake (Julian Ovenden).
The fourth season will also include some Hollywood heavyweights in the form of Paul Giamatti, as “maverick playboy” Harold Levinson, the brother of Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) and the son of Martha (Shirley MacLaine), who is also due to return.
Kiri Te Kanawa, Harriet Walter, Nigel Harman, Joanne David and Gary Carter will also make appearances.
