Dwayne Johnson to star in Young Rock TV series inspired by his life

Story by Jack Foley

DWAYNE Johnson is to star in a new comedy TV series entitled Young Rock, which is inspired by his life.

NBC has handed out a straight-to-series, 11-episode order for the show, which takes the form of a single-camera comedy.

Young Rock will be co-written by former Fresh Off The Boat showrunner Nahnatchka Khan and her long-time collaborator Jeff Chiang. Johnson, who is among the show’s executive producers, will appear in every episode as the focus and inspiration of the series will be on his formative years.

Johnson most recently hosted and produced NBC’s unscripted series The Titan Games, which has already been renewed for a second season. He also enjoyed small screen success with the HBO comedy series Ballers.

The mega-star can currently be seen in Jumanji: The Next Level in cinemas. The sequel has grossed more than $600 million at the worldwide box office to date.

He next stars in Disney’s Jungle Cruise feature and has plenty of other projects in development.
