Entourage to finish in 2011 but movie could follow
Story by Jack Foley
HIT series Entourage is to come to an end next summer (2011), with a movie possibly to follow.
HBO confirmed the news during its summer promotion campaign, when it revealed that the final season will probably only be comprised of six episodes.
The decision to wind up the show will bring an end to HBO’s longest-running series.
Michael Lombardo, HBO programming president, said: “The plan right now is we’ll finish up this season, we’ll do a shorter order for next season, we’ve talked about six.
“[Creator Doug Ellin] is appropriately reserving – he wants to write a film, but wants to do it when the story will make sense.
“He’s pitched other shows to us. I will expect that within the next couple of years [he’ll have another show on HBO]. But Entourage next summer will definitely be the final season.”
In further HBO announcements of note, the eaglery-anticipated US show Game of Thrones, starring Sean Bean, is due to premiere on US TV next spring, and Martin Scorsese has hinted that he would like to direct more episodes of forthcoming crime saga Boardwalk Empire if viewing figures allow.
