FlashForward cancelled by ABC

Flash Forward

Story by Jack Foley

SCI-FI drama FlashForward has been cancelled by ABC.

The ensemble drama, headed by British actor Joseph Fiennes, had been viewed by the broadcaster as a potential replacement for Lost and was launched last year with high hopes.

But despite hooking viewers initially with its high concept premise – involving the world blacking out for two minutes and experiencing a flash forward to their lives – the show became dogged by creative problems.

Various showrunners left, series co-creator David S Goyer took more of a back seat and its mid-season break was extended to allow time for improvements… meaning that one of its hooks, what happened during the April 29, 2010 blackout, wouldn’t air until May 27.

The series was based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Robert J. Sawyer and co-starred John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Courtney B. Vance and Sonya Walger.

It was among Channel 5’s biggest imports last year, where it maintains a prominent Monday night slot at 9pm.

  1. Praise be! This show just keeps getting worse. At least it’ll put me out of my misery. Anyone know if the wind-up order means the writers can at least answer the remaining questions without leaving us all dangling?
