Futurama to return with original voice cast members
Story by Jack Foley
THE five original cast members of cult hit Futurama will be returning to the show after all, after a deal was brokered between them and Fox.
Variety reports that John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille have secured deals with 20th Century Fox TV to return for the 26 new episodes that are being prepared for airing on Comedy Central.
Doubts had been circulating ever since Fox put out a casting call earlier this month to find replacements for the reboot, prompting an outcry from fans.
But creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen said in a statement: “We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters.”
The new episodes of Futurama will be aired on Comedy Central in mid-2010.
Created by The Simpsons legend Matt Groening and Cohen, Futurama originally aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003.
