Geena Davis to star in The Exorcist reboot for TV

Story by Jack Foley

GEENA Davis has signed on to star in Fox’s TV reboot of horror classic The Exorcist.

Billed as a modern reinvention, the Fox drama pilot is inspired by William Peter Blatty’s 1971 book of the same name.

The story will focus on two men, Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels, as they attempt to tackle one family’s case of demonic possession, thereby confronting the face of true evil.

Davis will play Angela Rance, the family matriarch, who does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is struggling. However, she can’t help but worry that her nightmares about a demon are a sign of what’s wrong.

Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) has penned the script, while Rupert Wyatt (of Rise of the Planet of the Apes fame), will direct the pilot.

The casting of Davis marks a return to series regular broadcast television following her Golden Globe winning role as the president in ABC’s Commander in Chief. She also recurred in a multiple-episode arc on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy last season.

Away from the small screen, Davis won a supporting actress Oscar for The Accidental Tourist and was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for her co-starring turn in Thelma and Louise.

She won a Globe for A League of Their Own and counts The Fly, Beetlejuice, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Stuart Little among her many other notable film credits.
