Get Shorty renewed for third season

Get Shorty

Story by Jack Foley

GET Shorty has been renewed for a third season by Epix.

The dark comedy, based on the 1990s Elmore Leonard novel and subsequent feature film, stars Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano and is written by Davey Holmes. It has become a critical darling and draws decent, if unspectacular, viewing figures. UK viewers can currently enjoy its second season on Sky Atlantic.

The third season will further the adventures of O’Dowd’s Cartel enforcer turned movie producer as he attempts to find his way in Hollywood, while trying to escape his violent past, as well as hapless producer Romano, who unwittingly becomes romantically involved with O’Dowd’s Cartel boss and an informant for the FBI.

In announcing the welcome renewal, Epix president Michael Wright said: “Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano have so thoroughly embraced their roles, and I know I speak for all fans of Get Shorty when I say that we can’t wait for their escapades to unfold in season three.

“The entire Epix team is looking forward to working again with Davey Holmes, Adam Arkin and the MGM Television team to continue Get Shorty’s success.”

Holmes (of Shameless fame) will return as show-runner on the drama, whose first season is now available to stream on Netflix after producers MGM Television secured an SVOD deal with the company.

Get Shorty joins a growing Epix scripted line-up that further includes the Ben Kingsley drama Our Lady LTD, Batman off-shoot Pennyworth and Godfather of Harlem.

Among its returning shows are Mark Strong spy series Deep State, which is available to UK viewers on FX.
