Glee cast shock: Chord Overstreet no longer a regular
Story by Jack Foley
AS WORK begins on Glee‘s third season, an early shock is that Chord Overstreet’s series regular option has not been picked up.
The announcement follows a cryptic Tweet sent out by the actor last week, which read: “It’s been a good year. Too bad it’s over. Time for summer and starting fresh.”
Sources close to the show maintain that the path is still open for Chord – who played McKinley transfer student Sam Evans – to make occasional guest appearances, but he won’t be in every episode.
But the decision seems to be in line with series creator Ryan Murphy’s claim that most of the show’s primary characters would graduate by the end of next season and that only the teaching staff would be safe.
It has come as a shock, however, as Sam was due to graduate with his fellow McKinley regulars at the end of the third season.
On a brighter note, Darren Criss (Warblers’ lead singer Blaine) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) have officially been upgraded to full-time series regulars, effective immediately.
All three were in London this week promoting the show and appearing in the Glee concerts at the O2 Arena. Read our review
