Glee star Grant Gustin to play The Flash in Arrow
Story by Jack Foley
GLEE regular Grant Gustin is to play The Flash/Barry Allen in three episodes of The Arrow.
The casting and appearance will also be used as a backdoor pilot for a potential Flash spin-off, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Flash will appear in Arrow‘s second season in episodes eight, nine and 20. It’s the latter one that will serve as the backdoor pilot.
Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg are behind the potential spinoff, along with director David Nutter.
If successfully launched, the spin-off would play like an origin story similar to what producers did with Stephen Amell in the first season of Arrow.
According to the report, the first two episodes will see the character in his home of Starling City, while the 20th will provide a window into The Flash’s world.
In comic book form, Barry Allen is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may be connected to a tragedy in his past.
A comic book fan boy, Barry is also obsessed with Arrow unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into that character’s dark world.
Gustin is hitherto best known for his work on Glee, where he played a member of The Warblers. But his credits also include CSI: Miami.
