Story by Jack Foley
HAYLEY Atwell is to play the lead in new ITV crime drama Life of Crime.
Written by Declan Croghan, of Waking The Dead fame, the story will span three decades of a police officer’s career.
Atwell will play the lead role of rookie police-woman Denise Woods, who becomes obsessed with one particular case involving the murder of a teenage girl.
The show will pick up amid the Brixton riots in 1985, with the three instalments followng Denise’s professional development through the police force and her single-minded and sometimes reckless pursuit of justice.
It will also chronicle her struggle to be accepted in a male-dominated environment.
The second and third episodes will be set in 1997 and 2013 respectively.
Atwell, who was most recently seen alongside Ray Winstone and Ben Drew in The Sweeney, will begin shooting the drama on location in Brixton and Dublin from November.
