DAME Helen Mirren has replaced Bette Midler in HBO Films’ Phil Spector TV film.
The Oscar winner will play Linda Kenney Braden, a defence attorney who represented the producer during his first trial for murder, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That means she will line up alongside Al Pacino, who has been cast as Spector, as well as writer-director David Mamet.
Midler was forced to withdraw from the project after suffering a herniated disc that may require surgery.
Also among the high profile cast as Arrested Development’s Jeffrey Tambor, who will play Bruce Cutler, an attorney on Spector’s defence team.
