Hellraiser TV series in development at HBO

Hellraiser

Story by Jack Foley

HBO is developing a TV series based on the Hellraiser movies.

Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty are penning the scripts, while David Gordon Green – who made his horror bow with 2018’s acclaimed Halloween sequel – is set to direct several initial episodes.

The potential series is based on the former Hellraiser movie franchise and has nothing to do with a movie reboot that Spyglass Media has in development, with David Bruckner recently attached to direct.

Hence, the TV project is being described as a continuation and expansion — not a reboot — of the well-established mythology of the film series, which focused on a group of evil beings from hell known as Cenobites, led by the iconic Pinhead character.

The original film series spanned 10 movies, with the first Hellraiser being written and directed by Clive Barker and based on his novella, The Hellbound Heart. Barker is not currently involved with the HBO project.
