Story by Jack Foley

HUGH Grant is to star alongside Nicole Kidman in HBO’s The Undoing.

The previously announced drama is based on the Jean Hanff Korelitz novel You Should Have Known and follows Grace Reinhart Sachs (to be played by Kidman), a devoted wife and mother, as well as a paediatric oncologist at a major cancer hospital.

Grace is also the author of the forthcoming, You Should Have Known, a book in which she castigates women for not valuing their intuition and calls upon them to pay attention to their first impressions of men.

But weeks before the book is published, a chasm opens in her own life: a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations.

Grant will play the seemingly devoted husband of Kidman’s central character.

The logline for the book continues: “Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child and herself.”

David E. Kelly is serving as the writer and showrunner, with Susanne Bier directing. The limited series marks the second collaboration between Kidman’s Blossom Films and David E. Kelley’s eponymous production company at HBO following the creative success that was Big Little Lies.

Indeed, that mini-series is returning to the network in 2019 with a new string of episodes – and the cast addition of Meryl Streep.

Grant, meanwhile, has previously [and recently] enjoyed widespread success and acclaim on TV for his performance in the BBC One drama A Very English Scandal.
