Idris Elba as Luther

Story by Jack Foley

IDRIS Elba will fulfil a lifelong ambition when he writes and directs a new one-off drama as part of Sky Art’s new Playhouse Presents season.

Pavement Psychologist, which is due to air on April 4, is described as “a taught and sexy drama” that will follow a woman named Jenny as she attempts to search for satisfaction in the world of accounting.

Anna Friel will play the lead role, alongside Reggie Yates, Stephen Mackintosh and Nonso Anozie, the latter of whom plays a homeless man Jenny meets and turns her world on its head.

Commenting on the feature, Elba said: “This was a tremendous opportunity that allowed me to showcase creativity that I don’t always have a chance to share with the public. I’m honoured to be a part of Playhouse Presents.”

Commenting on the star-studded upcoming second season of Playhouse Presents, James Hunt, Channel Director of Sky Arts, said: “The reception to the first series of Playhouse Presents…, most recently with A Young Doctor’s Notebook starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe, was nothing short of phenomenal.

“As a result, we’ve had the most extraordinary array of talent to choose from for round two. We are passionate about bringing the very best comedy and drama on Sky Arts to our customers, and we have no doubt that this outstanding cast, in the hands of these award-winning production companies, will do just that.”
