Animal Kingdom

Story by Jack Foley

JACKI Weaver (pictured) and Breaking Bad‘s Anna Gunn have joined the cast of the US remake of Broadchurch.

Renamed Gracepoint, the eight-part series follows the investigation into the mysterious death of a young boy in the sleepy seaside town of Gracepoint and the media scrutiny that follows.

Gunn is set to play Detective Ellie Miller, the character played by Olivia Colman in the UK original. She will, once again, be a happily married wife and mother who is overlooked for a promised promotion by the arrival of an outsider, Detective Emmett Carver (David Tennant, reprising his role from the ITV series).

Weaver, meanwhile, will play Susan Wright, a lonely local who lives in an RV park and works various cleaning and odd jobs. She prefers to remain anonymous, and has a dark history that’s being kept fiercely hidden. The role was played by Pauline Quirk in the original.

Gracepoint will begin filming in January 2014 for broadcast during the 2014-2015 TV season in the US. As yet, it is not known whether a UK channel will pick it up.

The US showrunners are In Treatment’s Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein, while original series creator Chris Chibnall (Doctor Who) will executive produce and pen the premiere episode.
