SUICIDE Squad star Jay Hernandez has been cast as Thomas Magnum, in the CBS reboot of the classic Tom Selleck series.

According to Variety, the new-look character will be an ex-Navy SEAL who returns from Afghanistan and re-purposes his military skills to become a private investigator.

CBS has been working with Peter M Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim, the team behind the reboot of Hawaii Five-0, on a contemporary re-envisioning of Magnum, P.I.

Hernandez made his film debut in 2001’s Crazy/Beautiful and has gone on to star in several hit films, including Friday Night Lights, Bad Moms, Hostel and 2016’s Suicide Squad as El Diablo.

CBSMagnum P.I. reboot is the latest in a long line of reboots heading to TV at the moment, with CBS also looking into reviving Cagney & Lacey. There are also plans to revive ’80s cult classic film Heathers as well as former TV hits Miami Vice and Starsky & Hutch.
