Story by Jack Foley

JOANNA Page and Iain Glen are among the ensemble cast of new ITV six-parter Breathless.

Set in the ’60s, the series will focus on the lives of doctors and nurses at one of London’s hospitals and delves into their “cauldron of lies, deception and guilty secrets, driven by love, ambition and sex”.

Natasha Little and Jack Davenport head the cast as the husband and wife at the centre of the story. Little plays Elizabeth, the “elegant” wife of surgeon Otto, played by Davenport.

Page and Shaun Dingwall will play friends of that couple, Dr Charlie Enderbury and his wife Lily, while Catherine Steadman will play a nurse who catches Otto’s eye.

Oliver Chris (Green Wing), Zoe Boyle (Downton Abbey), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Pippa Haywood (Mr Selfridge) and Sarah Parish (Monroe) have also joined the cast.

Breathless has been co-created by Casualty‘s Paul Unwin, who collaborated with Peter Grimsdale and Simon Tyrrell to write the series.

Kate Bartlett, executive producer for ITV Studios, said: “Breathless is an exhilarating and charismatic character drama, set against a glamorous London backdrop.

“The medical stories and events are there to illuminate and complicate the lives of our key characters and 1961 is a fascinating time in which to explore the changing role of women in society.”

Shooting is currently underway in London.
