Joe Russo to pen Extraction sequel for Netflix

Story by Jack Foley

JOE Russo has closed a deal to write a sequel to hit Netflix action-thriller Extraction.

Just days after leading man Chris Hemsworth teased the possibility of a follow-up via his Instagram account, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that a sequel is in development.

Russo wrote the script for the first instalment and produced it with his brother Anthony via their AGBO banner.

An estimated 90 million households have since tuned into the film since its April 24 release on the streaming platform.

Sam Hargrave, a Marvel stunt co-ordinator turned filmmaker, directed Extraction and could also return for the follow-up.

Extraction stars Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, an Australian mercenary mourning the death of his son, who takes a job to rescue a 14-year-old boy (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the kidnapped son of an imprisoned Indian drug kingpin. The rescue becomes more complicated when Rake and his young charge are forced to go on the run to evade people from both sides.
