JON Favreau has been offering some titbits of information on the upcoming second season of Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

The popular series remains on track to debut its second season in October on the streaming channel. And Favreau has promised a fulfilling new set of chapters.

Speaking during a virtual panel for the ATX Television Festival moderated by Vanity Fair’s Anthony Breznican, Favreau said: “We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lock down. Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and ILM are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and postproduction remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us.”

He also teased the fact that the sophomore run of episodes represents very much a continuation of the first season’s story rather than anything new.

“As we explore partnering with new filmmakers and having new characters and going deeper with the characters we already have, it’s really been very fun and fulfilling and I hope people are having as much fun seeing it as we are having making it,” he continued.

Of the new characters, it has already been confirmed that Rosario Dawson, Timothy Olyphant, Temuera Morrison and Michael Biehn will all be joining in some capacity.

While this season’s directing duties are divided between season one stalwarts such as Favreau himself and executive producer Dave Filoni as well as Ant-Man‘s Peyton Reed and Sin City‘s Robert Rodriguez.

During the same panel, Favreau’s fellow season one Mandalorian directors also joined in, including Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow and Taika Waititi.

Waititi joked that he had completed filming on his own Star Wars movie, while Chow said that Disney+ spin-off series Obi-Wan was well on track. “We have a little more to do than that, but we are in development still,” she commented.
