Jon S Baird to team up with Danny Boyle for TV's Babylon
Story by Jack Foley
JON S. Baird, director of Filth, the film adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel of the same name, will team-up with Danny Boyle on the new TV comedy drama Babylon.
Following the success of Filth, which is released on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday, February 10, Baird has confirmed he will direct the first three episodes of Babylon, the pilot for which was directed by Boyle and will air on Channel 4 on Sunday, February 9, 2014.
One of Britain’s greatest ever filmmakers, Boyle directed the 1996 film adaptation of another of Irvine Welsh’s novels, Trainspotting, the sequel to which is reportedly now in the works.
Says Baird of the opportunity: “I’m thrilled to be working with Danny and the entire team behind Babylon. It’s obviously a fantastic opportunity and I feel honoured to have such an incredibly experienced and talented mentor.”
Starring Brit Marling and James Nesbitt, Babylon follows the former’s Liz Garvey, an American expert in new media who has been drafted in by Nesbitt’s Chief Constable Richard Miller to revolutionise London’s police force.
The show also stars Paterson Joseph, Jill Halfpenny, Adam Deacon, Daniel Kaluuya and Jonny Sweet.
The show is described as more of a drama than a sitcom.
