POLDARK‘s Josh Whitehouse has landed a lead role in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel pilot.

News of his casting comes less than 24 hours after it was revealed that Naomi Watts is also heading to one of the lead roles in the fast-forming ensemble cast.

Whitehouse is a British actor who plays Hugh Armitage in hit BBC series Poldark. He has also starred in Northern Soul and most recently wrapped the lead role in The Happy Worker, the new drama being executive produced by David Lynch and directed by Duwayne Dunham.

Whitehouse is also being lined up to star in a musical re-telling of the cult classic Valley Girl, playing the lead role originated by Nicolas Cage.

Outside of film, he has also become the face of Burberry’s new fragrance campaign, ‘Mr Burberry’.

The untitled Game of Thrones prequel is being developed and written by Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin. It takes place thousands of years before the events of Game Of Thrones.

A logline reveals that the series will chronicle the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.

While Watts will play a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret, it is not yet known what kind of role Whitehouse will portray.
