Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo for Ryan Murphy's Normal Heart
Story by Jack Foley
JULIA Roberts and Mark Ruffalo are to star in HBO drama Normal Heart.
Based on the Tony-winning play by Larry Kramer, the TV movie will be directed and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, of Glee and American Horror Story fame.
It’s set in New York during the early onset of the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80s and will see Roberts playing a paraplegic physician working with some of the earliest patients.
Announcing HBO’s intention to commence filming this year, with a view to it being aired sometime in 2014, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told The Hollywood Reporter: “We are so proud to be involved with this monumental project. Ryan has assembled an extraordinary cast to bring Larry Kramer’s landmark theatrical achievement to the screen for the first time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this important film to HBO.”
Also joining the ensemble alongside Roberts, who has previously been directed by Murphy in Eat, Pray, Love, and Ruffalo, is Matt Bomer, of TV’s White Collar fame.
