Julia Roberts in talks for Amazon limited series Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win

Julia Roberts in Duplicity

Story by Jack Foley

JULIA Roberts looks set to be returning to Amazon for another limited series.

Having won widespread acclaim for her work on the streamer’s Homecoming, Roberts is in discussions to star in and executive produce Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win, an adaptation of the novel by Jo Piazza.

The story would follow a Senate campaign in Pennsylvania and is being adapted by Brothers & Sisters creator Jon Robin Baitz.

Roberts would play the title character, a Silicon Valley executive who moves with her husband and three daughters back to her Pennsylvania hometown to run for Senate in a race that could tip the balance of power in Congress.

However, she is shocked by how negative her opponent is willing to go and by her harsh treatment in the media, which eventually places a massive strain on her family.

When her opponent uncovers a secret that threatens both her campaign and everything she holds dear, Charlotte has to decide how badly she wants to win, and at what cost.

At present, Amazon has declined to comment on Roberts’ involvement.

But the former Pretty Woman turned Oscar winner for Erin Brockovich earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Homecoming, in which she played a counsellor at a centre for returning veterans.

She won’t return for season two, however, having signed only a one-year commitment to star. But she remains an executive producer of Homecoming.
