Karen Hauer joins Strictly Come Dancing
Story by Jack Foley
VENEZUELAN dancer Karen Hauer has joined the new season of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
She has been brought in to replace Katya Virshilas, who was axed by the BBC last week.
A former World Mambo Champion, Hauer, aged 30, has previously worked alongside Jennifer Lopez and, three years ago, auditioned for US reality series So You Think You Can Dance?. However, she was eliminated after the first few weeks.
Commenting on the new recruit in a statement, BBC controller of entertainment Katie Taylor said: “We’re thrilled to have such a fresh and talented professional join us, and I can’t wait to see what she will bring to the ballroom this autumn.”
Hauer herself is being quoted by RTE as saying: “If I could dance how I feel about joining Strictly then you’d be able to see how excited I am!”
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC1 later this year with another new face – only this time on the judging panel. Ex-ballerina Darcey Bussell will replace singer Alesha Dixon.
