Last Tango in Halifax renewed for third season
Story by Jack Foley
LAST Tango in Halifax has been renewed by the BBC for a third series.
The award-winning drama stars Anne Reid and Sir Derek Jacobi as 70-something couple Celia and Alan and was inspired by the show’s writer, Sally Wainwright’s mother, who found love again in later life after the death of her first husband.
Critics and audiences have warmed to the drama, which also triumphed at the BAFTA TV Awards earlier this year.
Confirming the renewal, Wainwright said: “I’m so happy we’ve got a third series. What’s so great about writing for characters like Celia and Alan is that there is a wealth of back story to explore. Series three will be a whole new emotional ball game.”
The final episode of series two will air tonight (Christmas Eve) and will see Celia and Alan renewing their marriage vows.
The third series is expected to air in late 2014.
Sarah Lancashire and Nicola Walker also star in the series.
