Lena Waithe joins Westworld's third season

MASTER of None star Lena Waithe has joined the third season of HBO’s Westworld.

The Emmy-winning writer-actress will line up alongside series regulars Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright and Thandie Newton, who have also been confirmed to reprise their roles. Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul is among the newcomers.

As yet, it is unclear whether Waithe has been added as a guest star, recurring or regular. But then secrecy is one of Westworld‘s strongest selling points – you just never know what’s coming.

However, showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan have previously promised a ‘radical shift’ for the series in season three.

They told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m excited to explore the idea of host as guests, as Bernard and Dolores are guests now. The mirror reflection seems that it’s turned on this new [incarnation of] Westworld, and that is the human world.

“I think the exploration now of [pretending to be] human inside this world as hosts could be rich territory. Once again, it seems there’s a possibility, again, without having read one word of season three, that the worlds are turned upside down and inside out once more.”

Waithe is an executive producer of Showtime’s The Chi and BET’s recently renewed Boomerang, as well as starring in hit Netflix comedy series Master of None alongside Aziz Ansari.

The third season of Westworld is expected to return in 2020 and is currently in production.
