Liam Cunningham joins Game of Thrones
Story by Jack Foley
LIAM Cunningham is joining the second series of HBO’s Game of Thrones as Davos Seaworth, a former smuggler nicknamed the ‘Onion Knight’ for his history of smuggling onions among other things.
He will join incoming cast members Stephen Dillane and Carice van Houten, whose presence was also recently confirmed by the channel.
Seaworth is among the more prominent roles in the second season. Once knighted, he becomes a great supporter and confidante to Lord Stannis Baratheon (Dillane) in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
Dillane has been cast as Stannis Baratheon, the older brother of the late King Robert (Mark Addy), and rightful heir to the throne, while van Houten is Melisandre, an intimidating woman who councils Stannis in his quest to claim the throne.
Her character is described as having the ability to see visions of the future in fire.
Other newcomers include Gwendoline Christie, as Brienne, Maid of Tarth, and Natalie Dormer, who will play Margaery Tyrell.
Production on the highly anticipated second season is due to commence on Monday.
