Line of Duty to get fifth AND sixth seasons

Line of Duty: Series 4

Story by Jack Foley

HIT BBC police drama Line of Duty will return for a fifth and sixth season, it has been confirmed.

BBC director general Tony Hall revealed earlier this week that fans can look forward to two more outings.

“I am very excited to say there’s not one but two more series of Line of Duty. So hooray for AC-12!” he said.

The fourth season of the cop drama, featuring Hollywood star Thandie Newton, came to a nail-biting conclusion on Sunday night, drawing one of the biggest audiences to the BBC for some years for a drama.

But even so, the show’s creator, Jed Mercurio, had been cautiously optimistic of the chances of a sixth series, especially since work on the fifth has yet to begin.

He recently told Radio Times: “I certainly would make six. Whether I would go beyond six would depend on how series five went.”

There is one piece of bad news attached to the good news, however… as fans may have to wait to see the next series of Line of Duty until spring 2019.
