Maison Close to be remade by HBO

Maison Close

Story by Jack Foley

HBO is to remake Canal Plus’ brothel-set costume drama Maison Close, which was screened on Sky Arts earlier this year.

The critically-acclaimed series is set in a luxury Parisian brothel in 1871 and follows three women who get together to try to free themselves from prostitution.

The HBO remake will still be set in Paris but will star American actors, according to trade publication Variety.

Producer Jacques Ouaniche told Variety: “HBO and Leverage have produced together some of my favorite shows, Entourage and Boardwalk Empire and I’m beyond excited that such a dream team has come on board to develop the remake of Maison Close.

“And I’m also particularly enthusiastic that Elizabeth Sarnoff is writing the pilot because Deadwood was my primary inspiration for Maison Close.”

Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson’s Leverage will produce the English-language pilot.

The French version, meanwhile, is currently in production on its second series.
